The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
So last week I had nothing to do and decided to look up this movie. I wanted to see it because it was Heath Ledgers last movie before he passes and he was one of my favorite actors (LOVE a Knights Tale). The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus is basically a story of a monk who has the power to control minds. Dr. Parnassus travels around and tries to sell this as basically a sideshow. Parny would be long gone by now but he made a deal with the devil for Immortality. You could say he has a gambling problem when it comes to bets with the devil. And to keep this review spoiler free we’ll just say he stumbles upon some people who do some things and turn out to be other people. I was interested in how they’d pull this movie off since Health died during production, but I felt they did it in a very interesting way. Health’s performance was ehhh. He played his role well it’s just the story was kind of ehhh also. Johny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell all did a pretty good job considering they each only played about 15 min each in the movie (except for Farrell). The best part about this movie is the visuals. IF you saw Alice in Wonderland it’s the same type of stuff inside the imaginarium and again if you have any spare LSD laying around this would be a movie to use it on. A sub-par story, with decent acting, and trippy visuals. If you love Health it’s worth a watch otherwise you can pass it by.
